After a year and a half, acting as Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the President, Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM officially became the 9th President of Saint Louis College in the Investiture Ceremony last August 8, 2009 held at the College Chapel.
The theme "Shepherding Towards Growth" was adopted during the Investiture Ceremony, which was participated and witnessed by SLC faculty, staff and students together with government officials, and heads and representatives of different higher educational learning institutions and religious community.
The investiture rites was integrated in a holy Eucharistic celebration where Msgr. Artemio Rillera, SVD, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of San Fernando, was the Main Celebrant and Msgr. Prudencio Andaya,CICM, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Tabuk, was the Homilist.
After the homily, the investiture ceremony followed. An Introduction of the New President by Dr. Lea de Guzman, Vice President for Academic Affairs, followed by the Reading of the Appointment by Rev. Fr. Romeo G. Nimez, CICM, the Provincial Superior of CICM Philippine Province who, together with the honoree's mother, Dr. Paz Sales, also vested the Academic Robe and Cape to Fr. Sales. The Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Director IV of CHED RO-1, Dr. Caridad O. Abuan, assisted by Dr. Salvacion S. Madarang, sister of Fr. Sales, presented the Academic Collar to Fr. Sales. The College Mace was presented by Rev. Fr. Jessie M. Hechanova, CICM with Rev. Fr. Renillo Sta. Ana, VP for Finance and Chaplain of University of Saint Louis of Tuguegarao. The oath of office later followed where Fr. Nimez served as the Inducting Officer. After which, acceptance and support of the assembly was shown through a thunderous applause and a standing ovation.
In his Inaugural address, after the communion, Fr. Sales stressed the two-fold mission of SLC - academic excellence and deepening of the Christian faith. Moreover, he reminded all SLC employees the need to be excellent because every student who comes to SLC is a Child of God as such, that young person deserves the best from all of them. Fr. Sales proclaimed that SLC is a holy place for SLC is a place of encounter between human beings who bring out the best in each other, who help each other, who mediate God to one another, and who try to lead each other to become fuller, better persons and that everybody is responsible to ensure that the College succeeds in forming men and women who value faith and fatherland, builders and believers who are socially responsible, creative and competent.
Fr. Sales pledged that his presidency will be driven by a whole-hearted commitment to unite and integrate academic excellence and religious faith. Also, Fr Sales cited that the ministry entrusted to him is owned and shared by all SLC employees. He asked all employees to join hands with him in transforming the College noble Vision and Mission statements into concrete daily actions in the classrooms, laboratories, offices and corridors in SLC.
Also, Fr. Sales in his address cited that education is one way to make every Filipino be able to live with integrity and dignity in his or her own native land.
As an ending to his address, Fr. Sales said, "I pledge that I will work with you to assure that it is an even greater institution when I depart."
Fr. Sales mother, brothers and sister were also present in the rites. The reception followed at San Luis del Mar, Baccuit Norte, Bauang, La Union.
